Job Summary

  • The Vice President of Operations will lead all operational activities for our dredging company, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable execution of marine construction and dredging projects. This executive role requires deep expertise in marine operations, project management, and team leadership to drive operational excellence across all business units.
 
Key Responsibilities 
Strategic Operations Leadership
 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive operational strategies aligned with company objectives and market demands.
  • Oversee all dredging operations, including hydraulic dredging, mechanical dredging, and environmental remediation projects.
  • Lead operational planning for large-scale infrastructure projects including port development, beach nourishment, and waterway maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, safety performance, and profitability.
 
Project Management & Execution
 
  • Direct project execution from mobilization through demobilization, ensuring adherence to specifications, schedules, and budgets.
  • Oversee bidding processes and provide operational input for proposal development.
  • Manage project risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams on technical solutions and equipment modifications.

 

Fleet & Equipment Management
 
  • Oversee maintenance, deployment, and optimization of dredging fleet including cutter suction dredges, and support vessels.
  • Develop equipment replacement and upgrade strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and vessel certifications.
  • Manage equipment utilization and allocation across multiple project sites.

 

Safety & Environmental Compliance
 
  • Champion safety culture and ensure zero-incident operations across all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and monitoring requirements.
  • Oversee implementation of environmental protection measures during dredging operations.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and environmental consultants.

 

Team Leadership & Development
 
  • Lead operations management team including project managers, marine superintendents, and field supervisors.
  • Develop succession planning and talent management strategies for key operational roles.
  • Foster collaboration between operations, engineering, and business development teams.
  • Mentor and develop operational personnel at all levels.

 

Financial Performance
 
  • Drive operational profitability through cost control and efficiency improvements.
  • Oversee operational budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze project performance metrics and implement corrective actions.
  • Optimize resource allocation and capacity planning.

 

Required Qualifications 
Education & Experience
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related technical field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in marine construction or dredging operations.
  • At least 7 years in senior leadership roles managing complex operations.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale dredging projects ($5M+ value).

 

Technical Expertise

  • Deep understanding of dredging methods, equipment, and marine construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of maritime regulations, environmental compliance, and permitting processes.
  • Experience with hydraulic and mechanical dredging systems.
  • Familiarity with marine survey techniques and production monitoring systems.

 

Leadership & Management Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing P&L responsibility for operational divisions.
  • Proven ability to drive operational improvements and change management.
 

Industry Knowledge

  • Understanding of marine construction market dynamics and competitive landscape.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting dredging operations.
  • Experience with government contracting and public sector clients.
  • Familiarity with environmental restoration and coastal protection projects.
 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Master Mariner or Chief Engineer credentials.
  • Experience with international dredging projects.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Experience with specialized dredging applications (contaminated sediment, deep water, etc.).
 

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 50% travel to project sites, corporate offices, and client locations.
  • Ability to spend extended periods at marine project sites.
  • International travel may be required for certain projects.

  • Orange, Texas/ Lake Charles Office, Louisiana (Operational Office).
  • Wherever the Dredge Vaneta Marie is located.

 

Schedule
 
  • 24/7/365 availability as needed.
