Job Description

  • The Construction Safety Professional ensures compliance with Company and Federal Safety regulations at project level. This position advises and audits the Safety Program on the jobsite, manage safety documentation, and clearly communicates with the division Safety Manager, Superintendents, Project Managers, and Crews to maintain incident and injury free sites.
Essential job Functions 
 
  • Document safety inspections, program implementation and enforcement, activity risk analysis, employee training, equipment inspections, accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Key project member involved in correcting site deficiencies. Assists Project Manager, Superintendent, Quality Control Manager and Management in maintaining the Site Deficiency Tracking Log and Port Engineer Deficiency log.
  • Support incident and emergency responses to include accompanying injured personnel to medical facility.
  • Develop and implement site specific safety plans.
  • Work closely with client safety representatives.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with field personnel and project management and advises field project managers and supervisors in all aspects of occupational safety.
  • Observes behaviors and conditions within the work environment on a frequent basis, coach employees regarding the value of working safely and provides feedback on these activities to project management and employees.
  • Prepare and implement construction site specific safety manuals and best practices.
  • Conducts and advises project management on accident investigations and assists project management in developing improvement plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Develops and delivers safety training.
  • Assists project management in preparing AHA’s for project activities and implements controls to eliminate hazards in the workplace.
  • Monitor marine vessel/equipment and crew activities to ensure HSE and other company policies and requirements are enforced, and associated task risks are mitigated. Inspection activities include but are not limited to internal processes/controls, general sanitation, housekeeping, and Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements, specifically, detecting the presence of contaminants having the potential to enter the environment. Inspections will be documented in the Daily report.
  • Ensure the Project Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and Hazardous Communications (HAZCOM) programs are compliant to standards, including maintaining current Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Perform other related duties as required. 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years industry safety experience; 2+ years project experience.
  • Preferred heavy civil, foundation and/or waterfront construction project experience.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Sciences preferred.
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent within the last 5 years required.
  • Preferred Experience in EM385-1-1 Safety Regulations.
  • Average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years.
  • Competent person status in the following areas of competency: Excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, hazardous energy. Confined space, health & hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents, PPE and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance.
  • Familiar with behavioral based safety programs a plus.
  • Ability to work more than 40+ hours per week, with flexibility to work additional hours as needed, including travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF Based Programs and Mobile Phone Based Programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language.

Certifications or Licenses

  • BCSP- CSP, ASP, CHST or willing to obtain.
  • OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer (Or willing to obtain).
  • CPR/FA/AED responder or trainer credential.
  • OSHA 500 preferred (Or willing to obtain).
  • Must be in good standing and able to obtain a government issued Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDs) identification card for access to the Guam Naval Base at Apra Harbor.
  • Valid Driver’s license and US Passport.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing to take a post-offer physical.
  • Ability to navigate project sites, which may include walking, climbing, and/or bending.
  • Ability to work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
  • 75-100% of time will be working outside walking the jobsite and getting on equipment or vessels.
  • Must be physically capable of boarding vessels (tugs, barges, work skiffs) and being able to climb ladders and lift to 50Ibs unassisted.
