Job Summary
- A Dredge Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals aboard a dredging vessel. This role requires culinary skills, organization, and the ability to work efficiently in a marine environment. The Dredge Cook ensures that all meals are prepared in accordance with dietary requirements, safety standards, and the preferences of the crew.Â

Key ResponsibilitiesÂ

- Meal Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook meals for the crew onboard the dredging vessel, considering dietary needs, cultural preferences, and available ingredients.
- Menu Planning: Create weekly menus that offer variety and balance in nutrition while adhering to budgetary constraints and supply availability.
- Procurement: Order food supplies and provisions, ensuring adequate stock levels for planned meals and emergencies.
- Food Safety: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the galley area, following hygiene regulations and food safety standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and clean kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, and utensils, to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Inventory Management: Keep track of food inventory, monitor expiration dates, and rotate stock to minimize waste.
- Dietary Accommodations: Accommodate special dietary requirements or restrictions of crew members, such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or allergies.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate with other crew members to schedule mealtimes, plan work shifts, and assist with additional duties as needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain records of food inventory, expenses, and meal preparation activities for reporting and budgeting purposes.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to assist in emergency situations, such as fire drills or medical emergencies, by following established protocols and providing support as necessary.

Qualifications
- Culinary Skills: Proficient in food preparation techniques, including but not limited to baking, grilling, frying, and boiling.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to plan and prioritize tasks efficiently, especially in a dynamic marine environment.
- Adaptability: Capable of adjusting menus and meal plans based on changing circumstances, such as weather conditions or supply shortages.
- Communication: Clear communication skills to interact with crew members, suppliers, and other stakeholders effectively.
- Hygiene Standards: Knowledge of food safety regulations and practices to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours in a confined space, often in a hot and humid environment, while standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
- Certification: Possession of relevant certifications, such as a food handler’s permit or maritime safety training, is advantageous.
