Job Description

  • The Dredge Captain is responsible for ensuring the on-the-water operations run efficiently, while maintaining production and all safety policies and procedures are enforced. They will be the point of contact between employees on the dredge, the living quarters, and the MWD Management.
  • Manage and monitor day-to-day operations of all dredge employees. Provide guidance through resources to all employees.
  • Responsible for project performance, production, and efficiently utilizing site, department, and staff resources.  
  • Able to work independently and interact professionally with Managers, team leaders and staff.  
  • Have a working knowledge of preparing and submitting clear, concise reports orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
  • Mentor all crewmembers and promote safety awareness in all operations. Lead pre-shift meetings, Job Safety Analyses, and safety “walk arounds” on the dredge and attendant vessels.
  • Responsible for project milestones and meeting scheduled completion date.
  • Ensure all aspects of a project are compliant.
  • Maintain daily paperwork including field reports, updates, and email correspondence.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ability to plan, design, and review the work of dredge staff.
  • Experience on Army Corps of Engineers Projects is heavily desired.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s license.
  • TWIC Card required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to board a vessel and climb vertical ladders.
  • Must be able to work outside for entire shift in all weather conditions (hot, humid, cold, wet) required.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
