Summary

  • The boatman is responsible for operating and maintaining various vessels and equipment used in dredging operations. This includes operating dredges, towing vessels, crew boats, and other associated marine equipment.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
 
  • Operate dredging equipment such as cutter suction dredges, hopper dredges, etc. to remove sediments and debris from waterways.

  • Maneuver dredges into position and monitors dredging operations.

  • Operate towing vessels to position dredges, barges, and other marine equipment.

  • Transport crew and supplies between the dredge and shore using crew boats.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vessels and dredging equipment as needed.

  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, policies, and regulations related to dredging operations.

  • Maintain logs and reports detailing operations, maintenance activities, and issues encountered.

  • Assist with loading/unloading of dredged materials onto barges or shoreside facilities.

  • Perform other deck duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Experience as a boatman, crew member, or similar role in the dredging or marine construction industry.
  • Valid credentials per U.S. Coast Guard regulations (e.g. Able Seaman, Mate, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of dredging equipment and operations.
  • Ability to operate various vessels and marine equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with navigation rules, charts, and electronic aids.
  • Good mechanical aptitude for performing basic maintenance and repairs.
  • Physical ability to work on vessels for extended periods in harsh conditions.
  • Strong attention to safety procedures and commitment to safe operations.
  • Effective communication and record-keeping skills.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience with specific dredging equipment used by the company.
  • Training and certification in areas like rigging, welding, first aid, etc.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related to dredging activities.

 

Work Location

  • Orange, Texas (Operational Office).
  • Wherever the Dredge Vaneta Marie is located.

 

Schedule

  • 21 days on and 14 days off schedule.
  • 24/7/365 availability as needed.
