Job Description
- We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious CDL Driver to join our MWD team. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting heavy equipment, materials, and personnel to and from marine construction and dredging project sites. This position requires operating commercial vehicles in challenging environments including waterfront locations, construction sites, and varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Logistics
- Safely operate commercial vehicles (Class A or B CDL required) to transport dredging equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Transport heavy machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, pumps, and specialized dredging equipment.
- Deliver sand, gravel, pipe sections, and other construction materials to project sites.
- Navigate to marine locations, ports, and waterfront construction sites.
- Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors for delivery schedules.
Equipment & Vehicle Management
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections according to DOT regulations.
- Maintain detailed logbooks and delivery records.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance and report mechanical issues.
- Ensure proper load securement using chains, straps, and tarps.
- Monitor weight limits and distribution for safe transport.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
- Follow company safety protocols and wear required PPE.
- Maintain Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and electronic logging.
- Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
Site Operations Support
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment using proper techniques.
- Support field crews with material handling and site preparation.
- Operate in marine environments and around water-based operations.
- Work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
Licensing & Certifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with clean driving record.
- DOT Medical Certificate (current and valid).
- Hazmat endorsement preferred.
- TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) preferred for port access.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience.
- Experience with heavy equipment transport preferred.
- Knowledge of load securement and DOT regulations.
- Ability to read maps, GPS systems, and follow detailed directions.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment operation and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
- Capable of climbing in and out of vehicles and equipment.
- Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- Ability to work around water and marine environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction, marine, or dredging industry.
- Familiarity with waterfront operations and port facilities.
- Knowledge of crane operations or heavy equipment operations.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Defensive driving course completion.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to weather conditions.
- Travel to various project sites including remote locations.
- Work around heavy machinery and marine equipment.
- Irregular hours based on project demands and tidal schedules.
- Potential for overnight travel for distant project locations.
